SLOWing down

We were having new windows put in our home today. I was planning to go for a run really early, before the oppressive heat set in. That didn't happen. By lunch time, I knew I had to get out of my house or I was going to lose it with all of the noise and activity. So I escaped to the gym.

I went out to run around the track. It was flipping HOT. It was a miserable run. I passed a trainer I knew a couple of times and she smiled and waved some encouragement as I went. When I was finished, I had gone 3.5 of the 3.75 planned miles, and did it at a turtle's pace of 48 minutes. I didn't even care what the time was. I just wanted to get as close to 4 miles as I could without dying from the heat.

I went in and found my old trainer and asked him about the sore spots I was dealing with. He showed me a machine to use to help stretch and strengthen a specific area. As we grabbed the machine, the other trainer saw me and asked, "Was that you out there running on the track?" When I said yes, and it was fliipping hot, she said, "You were killing it girl! Good job!" I looked at the other trainer and laughed. I said I felt like I was crawling and going so slow. He responded with - "Yeah, but you did it." He showed me how to use the little machine. At first I was skeptical, because it felt too easy. Then, after about 20 reps, I felt it. That was definitely hitting the right area. So I did another set, thanked him and headed out.

I'm actually glad tomorrow is a rest day. This heat is going to do me in. I am SO looking forward to meeting a teammate in Cades Cove on Saturday. She wants to try to go 6 miles. Her longest so far has been 4. I'm excited about helping her conquer this goal, and getting in another beautiful run in the cove before Tahoe. Hoping the forecast stays nice.
