We decided to head over to the Hard Rock Cafe and get some lunch. While we were there, I realized I wasn't feeling great. I tried to push it out of my mind, thinking it was just the lack of sleep, temperature difference from home, and the change in elevation. I knew I'd adapt quickly to being back in Tahoe, just like I always do. We finished lunch and headed back to the cabin. We'd planned to go back and take a nap, then head to the expo at 3:30 as requested. We noticed that others had been told 3:00, so we sent a quick message to Les asking when we should be there. At 2:15 he asked if we could be there at 2:30. Thoughts of a nap scrambled as we grabbed our stuff and headed back out the door. We arrived at 2:50 and immediately jumped right in, as they'd already opened the doors for the Trifecta and Triple folks.
The first people we saw were two familiar faces - a friend and his wife we'd worked with for years. Quick hugs hello and we were all so busy we barely talked. I saw Les, checked in with him, grabbed some volunteer shirts for everyone, and headed back to the bib pick up room. For 2 1/2 hours we did nothing but help runners pick up bibs and answer 10,000 shuttle questions. I was really feeling bad by this point, but had pasted a smile and was focused on making the event as positive an experience for each runner as I could. There were, of course, several snags along the way, but most were quickly remedied. I had a question at one point, called Les, found him, and as I walked over heard, "I don't know - ask Kristi - she's over there at the bib pick-up." I had to laugh outright. I love that the race director thinks I know more than he does - but - no. It's awesome that people know us well enough to let us make judgment calls and decisions on our own - but there are plenty of things I'm not willing to call the shots on. Not my circus. We managed to ignore the minor flaws and just have a great time. We had a lot of laughs and saw a lot of familiar faces. It was overall a good evening. If only I felt better.
We were so busy, no one got a single picture at the expo. We'll try again tomorrow.
We headed back to the cabin and everyone tried to get unpacked, organized and ready for bed. We ladies ended up all hanging out together in one room just chatting and catching up. It was a much needed team time.
Around 9 (midnight at home) we decided it was time to call it a night. Now we're headed to bed hoping for a good (or at least better) night of sleep.
So... Good night from Tahoe!
